  • Why I did it?

Prior to studying abroad I had never been on a plane or outside of the country. I decided to do it because I felt like it would be a great experience and a way for me to break out of my "shell" and open up. And it was!I went to Montego Bay in Jamaica and it was one of the best things I have ever done. It was so exhilirating!

    How Things Started

I attend Old Dominion University as a Junior. One day on campus I came across a flyer with information about studying abroad. My initial thought was "I would love to do that", but I didn't think much of it or even look at it as a possibility. This is because I know studying abroad can be very costly and I didn't think I would be able to afford it. However, I mentioned the idea to a coworker of mine, who is a graduate of ODU, and she was telling me about the great experience she had when she study abroad and convinced me to go for it and I did. I went to meet with a study abroad advisor and looked into which program I could afford. It went "uphill" from there....

    How You Could Study Abroad..

To study abroad the first step is to meet with a study abroad advisor. The advisor will inform you about all the available trips and courses, and from there the advisor will see what your budget is like and inform you of what courses best fit within your budget. Once you descide on a program/course then you will need to meet with your academic advisor to see if the course you chose fit in with your cirriculum. More information about studying abroad at ODU is available at ODU's Study Abraod Website, The link can be found to the left.
